Viva Las Vegas: Your Friendly Guide to Shows, Day Trips and When to Go
There’s nowhere quite like Las Vegas. One minute you’re watching the Bellagio fountains dance to Sinatra, the next you’re hiking red sandstone canyons just outside town, and by night you’re front row at a show you’ll be talking about for years. Whether it’s your first trip, your tenth, or you live here and want a fun night out, Vegas always has something new to fall for.
Here’s my friendly, no-stress guide to planning a Las Vegas trip: when to go, what to do, where to stay and how to snag show tickets.
When is the best time to visit Las Vegas?
Spring (March to May) and fall (late September to November) are the sweet spots: warm, sunny days that are perfect for pool time and exploring. Summer gets seriously hot, often over 100°F, which means great hotel deals if you plan around the heat. Winter is mild and festive, with holiday lights on the Strip and some of the year’s best rates outside of big weekends and New Year’s Eve.
Planning tip: Midweek stays are usually much cheaper than weekends, and big conventions can push prices up fast. Tell me your dates and I’ll check what’s happening in town before you book.

Best things to do in Las Vegas
See a show. Vegas is the live entertainment capital: Cirque du Soleil, headliner residencies, comedy, magic and immersive experiences at the Sphere.
Walk the Strip at night. The Bellagio fountains, the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens and the classic hotel lobbies are all free to enjoy.
Go old-school downtown. Fremont Street Experience, vintage neon and the laid-back Arts District have a totally different vibe from the Strip.
Eat your way through town. Celebrity-chef dinners, legendary buffets, late-night tacos and hidden speakeasies.
Grab the classic photo. The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign is a must, especially at sunrise before the crowds.

Easy day trips from Las Vegas
Some of the best parts of a Vegas trip are just outside the city:
Red Rock Canyon: about 30 minutes west, with a scenic drive and hikes for every level.
Hoover Dam: under an hour away, and the views are wild.
Valley of Fire State Park: about an hour away, with fiery red rock and ancient petroglyphs.
Grand Canyon: a long day trip by car, or a bucket-list helicopter flight.

Where to stay in Las Vegas
The right hotel can make your whole trip. Center Strip puts you in the middle of the action, resorts with big pool scenes are perfect for a girls’ trip or bachelorette, and quieter, non-gaming hotels are great if you want luxury without the casino buzz. Downtown is fun, walkable and easier on the budget.
Here’s the best part: I book stays for free. When you book your hotel through me, you pay the same rates or lower than booking direct, and many stays come with extras like breakfast, a room upgrade or a resort credit when available. If you’re in a hotel rewards program, you still earn your points.
Planning a Las Vegas wedding or honeymoon?
Vegas is one of the most fun places in the world to say “I do.” Nevada has no waiting period after you get your marriage license, and the options range from iconic chapels to stunning resort ceremonies and desert views at sunset. It’s a fantastic honeymoon spot too, with spa days, rooftop dinners and couples’ shows.
If you’re planning a destination wedding, I can coordinate room blocks for your guests, help everyone find the right hotel and take the stress out of the planning so you can actually enjoy it.
